Workday opens its developer program to more builders
Public docs and a test-system beta offer a clearer first step for people building business tools.

What happened
Workday announced its open developer program on October 14. People can read its API docs and MCP tools without logging in. APIs let apps exchange data. MCP tools let an AI helper work with connected tools.
Builders can join with a personal email. Through an open-access beta, they can request a personal development tenant: a test space for building. A request does not guarantee a place or access to a company’s live records.
What this means for you · Roseram analysis
Business tools need more than a good-looking screen. They need the right data and clear rules about who can act. A test space lets you learn before touching real records.
Start with made-up sample data. Build one read-only view. Check what happens when access is denied. If your idea later changes pay or staff records, get the right owner to review the rules before launch. This is Roseram’s suggested starting path.
