What happened
Microsoft announced on September 28 that Fabric IQ in Copilot Chat and Cowork is generally available. It uses governed Power BI semantic models, metrics, relationships, and definitions to answer business questions and support multistep work. Microsoft says the capability retains the underlying access controls.
Why it matters
Enterprise AI often fails on business context rather than raw model capability. Grounding answers in governed definitions may help, but buyers still need to test data quality, permission boundaries, and whether generated conclusions are auditable.
