Copilot code review gains REST and GraphQL entry points

Teams can request reviews programmatically and choose the effort level for each request.

Tools: GitHub Copilot

What happened

GitHub’s October 2 update says Copilot code review can now be requested through REST and GraphQL APIs, including a per-request effort setting. It also confirms that the default review effort changed to Balanced on September 28; explicitly selected Lite settings remain respected.

Why it matters

An API makes AI review easier to integrate into existing delivery tools. Review output still needs assessment against the actual change: automation can help route feedback without turning a model’s judgment into a merge guarantee. The default-effort change predates this announcement and should not be presented as an October 2 launch.
