What this case establishes
This is a commercial publisher’s customer account. Roseram checked the source and wrote the analysis; it did not interview the customer, run the product, audit the figures or establish that AI caused the reported business result. The pilot below is a proposal, not a completed experiment.

Base44: the documented workflow
Anthropic’s Base44 story describes translating requests into applications for nontechnical builders, with a conversation used to refine the result. It reports shorter creation times and growing adoption. These are attributed platform claims; the article does not establish that an application’s permission model, data handling or maintenance requirements have been independently checked.
The mechanism worth examining
The first screen gives a user something concrete to react to. The harder product problem is turning that reaction into precise behavior: what happens when a record changes, who can see it and how an error is recovered. A good builder reduces the need to describe implementation details while still making those decisions visible. It should not replace missing business rules with plausible defaults that the user never sees.
The implementation decision
Pick an app with one workflow and two roles, such as submitting and approving an internal request. Ask the system to summarize the intended data and authorization rules in ordinary language. Let the user correct that summary before accepting the workflow. Evaluate the edit experience as well as initial generation: a business application will need changes after its first version.
Where the workflow can fail
A later prompt can unexpectedly rewrite unrelated fields or remove a rule that was correct in the first version. Keep before/after evidence and test protected behavior after each edit. Watch for invented records and demonstration-only persistence. A builder should identify test data as such, and the user should understand whether the displayed record is local, shared or permanently stored.
A practical evaluation, designed for this use case
Have the user generate a request app, correct one rule and change one label. Re-run the role and persistence cases after each change. Record whether the interface makes the scope and outcome clear enough for the user to explain. Compare the time to a verified workflow with the total time spent discovering and repairing silent defaults.

The decision matrix
Original evaluation criteria for this workflow. These are questions to test, not results measured by Roseram.
| Decision | Evidence to collect | Stop or revise when |
|---|---|---|
| Rule clarity | User can explain the authorization | Defaults stay hidden in generated behavior |
| Edit stability | Protected cases survive revisions | A small prompt rewrites unrelated rules |
| Data trust | Fixtures and persistence labelled | Invented records look like real activity |

Questions this case answers
Can a nontechnical user verify an application?
They can verify the intended journey and visible rules, with qualified review for security or infrastructure decisions they cannot assess.
Why test edits after the first build?
Maintenance can reveal whether the builder preserves correct behavior or treats each prompt as permission to replace the application.
