CUSTOMER ACCOUNT / ATTRIBUTED EVIDENCE
What this case establishes
This is a commercial publisher’s customer account. Roseram checked the source and wrote the analysis; it did not interview the customer, run the product, audit the figures or establish that AI caused the reported business result. The pilot below is a proposal, not a completed experiment.

OffDeal: the documented workflow
Anthropic’s OffDeal story describes consolidating more than twelve agent workflows into Archie and reports an internal evaluation increase after changes to the Agent SDK, tools and prompting. Several components changed together. The account does not isolate a single cause for the improvement, nor does deal value prove that every research or advisory output was accurate.
The mechanism worth examining
Separate rigid workflows can break when the task varies from the expected sequence. A general agent can choose a next step from new evidence, but it still needs good tools, bounded access and a useful result contract. Treat flexibility as an architecture choice to evaluate, not an automatic improvement. The system must explain where its investigation ended and which sources support the handoff.
The implementation decision
Choose a non-sensitive advisory research task whose answer can be checked. Keep tool interfaces and source access explicit. Compare the old workflow with the new agent under the same acceptance criteria. Record changes to context size, tool design and prompting so an improvement is not attributed solely to the model or SDK.
Where the workflow can fail
A flexible agent can pursue irrelevant leads for a long time or combine confidential material outside its scope. It may produce a convincing business narrative from unverified prospect information. Limit source access and record what remains unknown. Keep consequential transaction and client decisions with qualified humans rather than treating researched possibilities as commitments.
A practical evaluation, designed for this use case
Use historical sanitized tasks with known outcomes, including one case that departs from the old flow. Track source accuracy, tool failures, context errors and accepted artifact quality. Compare complete effort and review cost. The result should identify whether flexibility handles variation better without making the workflow harder to audit.

The decision matrix
Original evaluation criteria for this workflow. These are questions to test, not results measured by Roseram.
| Decision | Evidence to collect | Stop or revise when |
|---|---|---|
| Architecture value | Same task contract compared | Multiple simultaneous changes imply one cause |
| Investigation control | Scope and stopping rule visible | Long research is mistaken for progress |
| Business evidence | Artifact accuracy checked | Deal value is called model accuracy |

Questions this case answers
Does the internal accuracy increase prove an SDK alone caused it?
No. The source describes several changes, so causal attribution must remain limited.
Does a general agent need fewer controls?
No. Flexible sequencing still requires scoped authority, evidence and stopping rules.
