PRODUCT DESIGN / PUBLIC DOCUMENTATION
What this case establishes
This is a product-design case based on public project documentation. Repository visibility is not proof of secure deployment, maintained compatibility, adoption or revenue. Roseram did not install or benchmark this project; the proposed evaluation is not a reported result.

Dify: the documented workflow
Dify’s repository documents an AI application development platform with workflow orchestration, retrieval and model integrations, including self-hosted deployment options. These capabilities do not establish a secure configuration or an independently measured business result. Review the project’s current license and the relevant edition before planning commercial deployment.
The mechanism worth examining
A workflow graph can make the sequence of retrieval, generation and tool use easier to inspect. The graph is a design aid; the executed path and data payloads remain the operational truth. Keep each node’s input, output and failure behavior explicit. An externally connected model or tool can move information beyond the machine hosting the workflow.
The implementation decision
Build a three-stage pilot with synthetic documents: retrieve evidence, generate a supported answer and return it without writing to an external service. Define empty-result and timeout paths before adding side effects. Inspect credential storage and network destinations in the chosen deployment. Self-hosting the interface alone does not make every dependency local.
Where the workflow can fail
A branch may swallow an error or send a full document to a model that only needs a short passage. Retries can duplicate an external action when side effects are introduced. Use bounded payloads and stable request identities. The preview of a graph should not be taken as proof that the actual credentials, permissions and runtime match the intended design.
A practical evaluation, designed for this use case
Inspect executed traces for ordinary, empty and failed retrieval. Compare answers with a reference set and test whether unsupported questions receive an honest response. Measure latency and cost per accepted answer across the entire graph. Before enabling writes, verify idempotency and permission boundaries separately from conversational quality.

The decision matrix
Original evaluation criteria for this workflow. These are questions to test, not results measured by Roseram.
| Decision | Evidence to collect | Stop or revise when |
|---|---|---|
| Data | Executed payloads inspected | The graph hides excessive information transfer |
| Failure | Empty and timeout paths defined | An error becomes a confident answer |
| Actions | Writes have explicit permission and identity | A retry duplicates a side effect |

Questions this case answers
Does a visual graph prove the data path?
No. Inspect actual executed payloads and configured services.
Does self-hosting keep every dependency local?
No. Connected models and tools may still use external services.

Wiki brief
Dify is examined here for visual ai workflow orchestration. The article answers “How should teams evaluate a visual AI application workflow?” using linked primary material and original evaluation design. It is not a customer testimonial for Roseram or an endorsement by Dify.
Operator takeaways
- Inspect executed paths.
- Handle empty evidence.
- Review side effects separately.
