FREE LESSON 3 OF 8 · BEGINNER

Choose a small set of tools

Learn what a framework, package, and stack do.

A stack is a tool set

A stack is the set of tools a project uses. A framework gives code a shared structure. A package is reusable code. A dependency is a package your project needs to run.

React helps build a screen from small parts called components. Next.js adds ways to build pages and server work around React. Python can suit data tasks or a server. Pick based on the job and what you can learn.

Read before you install

In a JavaScript project, package.json lists scripts and packages. A lockfile records exact package versions. Use the project’s setup guide and package tool. Do not mix tools at random.

Ask why a new package is needed. Check its source and updates. More packages mean more code to maintain. Never paste a command you do not understand just because AI wrote it.

Try these steps

  1. List what the first version must do.
  2. Read the setup guide and package scripts.
  3. Ask for the smallest tool set that fits the job.

A real-world example

A one-page flyer can be static. A React page can share repeated cards. A booking app may need a server and database. A Python script might sort a file without any website.

Ask AI for help

Copy this prompt into the tool you use. Fill in the blanks. Check what it gives you.

Read this project setup: ___. Explain its stack, start command, and required packages. Suggest only tools needed for my first version: ___.

Your turn

Write the job of each tool in your project. If you cannot explain one, ask before adding more.
